Welcome to 1st grade parents and families!

My name is Mrs. Arata and I would like to welcome your child to First Grade.  We will be working on Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies again this year.  Students will be bringing home books to read every night and other various homework assignments.  We will also be going on some fun field trips this year.  I will talk about this more at Back to School Night.

This will be my fifth year teaching at Kerrydale Elementary School!  Prior to teaching at Kerrydale, I was a fourth grade teacher in San Diego, California.  I moved to Virginia six years ago with my husband, three children and dog.  I am originally from Indiana, so I love being able to experience the Fall colors again.

I am looking forward to getting to know both you, and your child, this year.  Grade one students will achieve much this year in terms of academic growth, greater self-confidence, and improved social and reading skills.  Good communication between parent, teacher, and student is very important for your child's academic growth!  Please feel free to contact me at my school email arataax@pwcs.edu.
